About the Author

David O'Neill

David published "When Angels Cry" to wide acclaim from child safety organisations and mental health professionals alike.

His book received high praise from personalities such as Ita Buttrose, Andrew Carroll of ABC Radio and Hetty Johnston, founder of Bravehearts. The prestigious Australia and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors and a host of other prominent national organisations have recommended When Angels Cry to members, clients and patients.

David was invited to share his story in a number of newspapers and radio interviews and his book won a City Council Achievement Award.

David was forty-two years of age when his book was published. After a lengthy career in sales and marketing management the events depicted in When Angels Cry brought about a major shift in his priorities and he has worked in community services (mental health) for the past ten years.

When their daughter was just four years of age David and his wife became aware that his own father was molesting her. This led to the discovery of other young victims in his father's past and so began a decade of torment involving police investigations, court cases and ongoing intra-familial difficulties. It also began David's own decades-long battle with manic depression (bipolar disorder).

When Angels Cry is an inspirational, no-holds-barred account of not only the trauma experienced but of the courage and perseverance shown by David in his determination to overcome the tragedy and to learn and grow from his experience.

When Angels Cry has much to offer all those who have been touched by child sexual abuse and/or mental illness - and even those who have not. It is a story told with raw emotion and stands as a testament to the will of human beings to overcome.
